About Final Expense Guide
Last updated: August 2026
Final Expense Guide is an independent, editorial website that explains final expense (burial) insurance in plain English for people in the United States — most often readers between 55 and 85, and the adult children helping them plan ahead.
Unai Sampedro González
Founder & Publisher, Final Expense Guide
I started this site after seeing how confusing and sales-driven most final expense insurance content online can be — long forms before you can read anything, aggressive phone-call pop-ups, and articles clearly written to push one company over another. I wanted something simpler: a place where you can actually read and understand the topic first, at your own pace, before ever speaking to an agent.
What this site is — and isn't
Final Expense Guide is a publisher, not an insurance company. We are not a licensed insurance agency or broker, we do not sell insurance policies, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any specific insurance company unless we say so explicitly in an article. When we mention companies like Mutual of Omaha, Globe Life, Colonial Penn, or others, it's for general educational and comparison purposes, based on publicly available information.
Nothing on this site is personalized financial, insurance, tax, or legal advice. It's general information intended to help you ask better questions and compare your options — the kind of background you'd want before a conversation with a licensed agent, not a replacement for one. Please read our full Disclaimer for details.
How we research and write our guides
- Plain-English first. Every guide is written for a reader who has never dealt with life insurance terminology before, and explains any technical term the first time it's used.
- General, not fabricated. Where we discuss pricing, we present illustrative ranges based on general industry patterns — never a claim to know a specific company's exact current rate. We always recommend getting a real quote before deciding anything.
- Regularly reviewed. Insurance rules, costs, and company offerings change. We review and update our cornerstone guides periodically, and note the last update date at the top of each article.
- Independent tone. We're not paid by any single insurer to favor its products, and we try to point out trade-offs honestly, not just advantages.
